Donato Masciandaro becomes honorary president of the BAFFI Centre

Donato Masciandaro has been appointed honorary president of the BAFFI Centre on Economics, Finance and Regulation. 
The appointment follows the assignment of the role of director of the Baffi Centre to Massimiliano Marcellino, which took place in February 2025 as part of the installation of the new directors of the Research Centers of Bocconi University.

Donato Masciandaro comments: “BAFFI Centre is similar to a ship sailing in the sea of ​​research, which is rough at the moment, due to uncertainty (which generates greater demand for knowledge) and to the fact that disciplines that are intertwined with each other. Anyway, in Bocconi the directors of the Centre are lucky persons: they  sail, but having at the same time the opportunity to prepare the ship to tackle uncharted waters. The original ship has been projected by Mario Monti in 1984. I was  on board since then, having as director Angelo Porta. From 2015 the ship has been strenghened, and he  tried  to do my best, first as president with Francesco Saita, then as director since 2018,  to prepared the ship  to this context, having the privilege to coordinate a series of fantastic  fellows, thanks to an excellent staff; the ship chaged its name in 2023, thanks to Elena Carletti. Now an outstanding commander is at the helm. I’ sure that he will do better than me; indeed, Prof. Marcellino knows Bocconi, research and the three audiences to which Baffi addresses itself: academia, institutions and markets”.  

Masciandaro is Full Professor of Economics since 2001. Since 2005 Masciandaro holds the Bocconi  Chair in Economics of Financial Regulation. In the periods 2013 – 2017 and 2008 - 2010 he has been Head of the Department of Economics. From 2023 he is director of the SDA EPDS Knowledge Area,  as well as director of Financial Education Committee, Italian Ministry of Economic and Finance.  From 2011 he has been member of the SUERF (The European Money and Finance Forum) Board, and from 2024 he is President. From 2010 he is Associated Editor of the Journal of Financial Stability.
