BAFFI Centre grows with the launch another research unit: Competiveness, Competition and Regulation (CCR). It is the 15th research unit of the centre. The unit, directed by Francesco Decarolis, aims to develop a center of excellence dedicated to the study of competition and economic regulation in strategic sectors. The unit also contributes to the debate on the challenges of European competitiveness, which highlights the role of market competition, economic regulation and industrial policy in the evolution of market dynamics. The goal of CCR is providing analysis and tools to strengthen Italy’s and Europe's ability to compete on a global scale, while ensuring an effective regulatory framework consistent with the objectives of growth and sustainability.

“Studying how rules shape markets is essential to designing policies that foster innovation, resilience, and fair competition in strategic sectors”, explains the unit director Francesco Decarolis. He is Full Professor of Economics at Bocconi University, where he teaches and conducts research in industrial organization, with a focus on public procurement, auctions, and health economics. Prior to joining Bocconi, Decarolis was on the faculty at Boston University and the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and he held visiting positions at EIEF (Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance), Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia University. He holds a BSc in Economics from Università Bocconi and a MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago.
