Simone Lonati
I am Associate Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at Bocconi University, and I hold the Italian National Scientific Qualification for Full Professorship. I also teach Criminal Procedure at the School of Specialization for the Legal Professions of the University of Pavia and Bocconi University, as well as in executive education programs at SDA Bocconi on compliance, organizational models under Legislative Decree No. 231/2001, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, international sanctions, and internal investigations.
My research focuses mainly on criminal procedure, European criminal procedure, procedural safeguards under the European Convention on Human Rights, remedies for violations of ECHR guarantees, criminal evidence, appeals, corporate criminal liability, the analysis of artificial intelligence systems in criminal proceedings, and, more broadly, the relationship between criminal justice, technology, and the protection of fundamental rights.
I am the author of monographs, essays, and contributions published in scientific journals and collective volumes, including international publications, and I co-edited, with Massimo Ceresa-Gastaldo, the volume Profili di procedura penale europea. I regularly contribute to national and international scholarly debate through conferences, research projects, and academic bodies. I am a member of the European Law Institute and the European Criminal Law Academic Network, a Research Fellow at the Institute for European Policymaking @ Bocconi University, and a member of scientific and editorial boards of legal journals. I have taken part in PRIN and COFIN research projects, received Bocconi University’s 2013 Excellence in Research Award, and served as a member of the Group of Evaluation Experts for the 2011–2014 Research Quality Assessment, Area 12.
