Can an aware and balanced use of the most advanced technological systems strengthen the effectiveness of consumer protection? This question embodies the core of the investigation conducted as part of the MUR-PRIN 2022 CoPe (Consumer Protection Effectiveness) Project.

The results of the research project will be shared at the Conference “CoPe (Consumer Protection Effectiveness) - Verso un'effettività digitale della tutela del consumatore mediante rimedi self-executing e sistemi di risoluzione alternativa delle controversie: una ricerca empirica sul diritto privato europeo”, hosted by Bocconi University on Wednesday 28th January 2026 at 11.00-17.00.

Thanks to the participation of experts in the field, each research Unit will explain how the use of the most advanced technological systems can strengthen the effectiveness of consumer protection, encouraging the use of self-protection tools and out-of-court dispute resolution with providers of goods and services in the banking sector, in the supply of digital content and services, in tourism services, in telecommunications and in the financial sector.

“Following the empirical method adopted by the research, the Conference will present an analysis of data collected through questionnaires sent to consumers and legal practitioners on their level of knowledge of ADR tools for consumer protection, as well as on the main issues relating to the use of algorithmic models in Business-to-Consumer relations and in the management of related disputes. The aim is to assess the effectiveness of the relevant legislation and to decipher more precisely the regulatory models to be proposed”, explains Professor Pietro Sirena, Principal Investigator of the research project.
